WP4 - Local empowerment

What we do

WP4 focuses on ecosystem services and their costs and benefits in relation to scenario development as well as translation of the multiple outcomes of the predicted scenarios to enforce local engagement and action through a collaborative approach. Essentially, WP4 seeks to combine elements from WP2, relating to ecosystem services, with findings and models from WP3, and incorporate these elements to promote stakeholder engagement. Altogether, WP4 provides the implementation of optimal sustainable and actionable nature-based solutions (NbS) through different ways of promoting local engagement and governance.

How we do it

SustainScapes intend to apply a Collaborative approach to stakeholder involvement which includes different survey-based data on attitudes and perceptions, interviews with a variety of stakeholders as well as field excursions. Additionally, in WP4 we will address valuation of ecosystem services by combining meta-analysis, modelling and demonstration of socio-economic benefits.

Furthermore, SustainScapes will involve two categories of stakeholders: national actors (national organisations and governmental agencies) and local actors (private land owners, local organisations and residents). Altogether, WP4 will combine findings from these research topics to develop a model, which includes evidence-based landscape scale prioritization, to empower local efforts and track their effects. Finally, our approaches will be validated and tested in different Danish landscape areas, in collaboration with stakeholders, to ensure the highest possible learning outcome as well as the highest level of generalization for nation-wide implementation.

Why we do it

The goal of WP4 is to develop an evidence-based decision and change detection tool which incorporates local engagement, decision tools and governance. Therefore, SustainScapes seeks to provide a tool with actionable and measurable Nature-based solutions which optimize local engagement and collective impact.
