Sites with Field activities

At SustainScapes we have focused our research activities to a series of case landscapes that represent different aspects of the green transition from biodiversity to climate change and social science, the sites are examples of how local implementations can impact these agendas.

We work on a gradient of ecosystem integrity looking at degraded natural areas that are being restored by the reintroduction of natural processes such as grazing (Mols) and clearing of conifer plantations to recreate dune dynamics (Husby), but much work is also done in highly modified agricultural landscapes such as Kattrup and Vilhelmsborg where the biological communities have in large part been depleted due to crop-farming, nutrient run-off and water drainage.

Some areas retain activities of production such as Rye Nørskov where modern forestry is practiced but some areas are reserved for biodiversity with the introduction of Wild boars.
