As a professor I focus on experimental cardiac surgery - primarily on natural and prostetic heart valves. I have a special interest developing new techniques and products to be used in relation to cardio-thoracic surgery.
I have a broader research profile which spans from blood circulation in giraffes to commercialization of research results. I was educated in cardiac surgery and I have national and international experience from working in professional organizations and collaborations.
Within experimental cardiac surgery I work with young researchers in our department on in vitro settings in the laboratory, animal experiments and with clinical experiments in patients.
Overall we combine our research with a cross disciplinary approach - in particular between doctors and engineers. Our primary focus is bodily healing processes and the interaction between artificial biomedical material and biological tissue. In this context modulation of healing processes is of primary interest.
