Profile

Bent Deleuran's lab has strong international collaborations in immunology, particularly with Professor David Abraham at University College London and Professor Vincent Sobanski at the University of Lille, focusing on systemic sclerosis. Bent Deleuran has research collaborations with Harvard Medical School and Stanford University, strengthening translational research. Recently, this included a collaboration on juvenile arthritis with Charité University Berlin and Hacettepe University.

Research

Our research focuses on the mechanisms of autoimmune diseases, particularly systemic sclerosis and connective tissue diseases such as SLE. We investigate how immune cells, autoantibodies, inflammatory mediators and tissue-specific processes drive inflammation and disease progression. By combining clinical, translational and experimental approaches, we aim to identify disease mechanisms and biomarkers that enable more precise diagnosis, patient stratification and personalised treatment.

Teaching activities

Bent Deleuran contribute to teaching and supervision in medicine, immunology, rheumatology and biomedical research. BD supervise and mentor PhD students and clinician-scientists working at the interface of clinical and experimental research. My teaching integrates clinical and mechanistic perspectives on inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, with a focus on developing researchers who can bridge disciplines and translate fundamental biological insights into clinically relevant research.

Collaborations

Bent Deleuran have collaborated at Harvard Medical School and Stanford University, strengthening translational research across disciplines. Recently, this included a collaboration on juvenile arthritis with Charité University Berlin and Hacettepe University.

Consultancy

Bent Deleuran has extensive experience in scientific advisory and governance roles. He has served as Vice-Chair of the Research Council of the Danish Rheumatism Association. He has been a member of several national and international research organisations and advisory panels, including many medical companies. These roles reflect his expertise in rheumatology, immunology and autoimmune diseases, and translational medicine.

Job responsibilities

Bent Deleuran serves dual roles as a Consultant in Rheumatology at Aarhus University Hospital and a Professor of Autoimmune Diseases at Aarhus University.
His core responsibilities include diagnosing and treating severe autoimmune and rheumatological illnesses. As a professor, he leads studies on immune system mechanics, supervises PhD students, and lectures in medicine as well as Molecular Medicine.
