Jens-Christian Svenning elected to Academia Europaea

In 2025, Jens-Christian Svenning was elected as a member of the Academia Europaea—one of Europe’s most prestigious scholarly academies. Membership is by invitation only and awarded through a rigorous peer-review process to scholars who have demonstrated sustained academic excellence and international impact in their fields.

The Academia Europaea brings together leading experts across all academic disciplines to promote excellence in scholarship, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and support evidence-based science policy in Europe. It plays a key role in connecting top researchers across Europe and beyond, and contributes to scientific advising at the European level. 

This recognition highlights Svenning’s outstanding contributions to ecological and biodiversity science. He is internationally known for his pioneering work in macroecology, biogeography, and global change biology, including influential research on how ecosystems respond to climate change, human pressures, and historical legacies.
