The Ernest Haeckel Prize is awarded every two years by The European Ecological Federation to “honor a senior ecologist for an outstanding contribution to European ecological science”. The prize was awarded the first time in 2011. The recipient is invited to deliver a keynote at the biennial EEF Congress and also receives a certificate and medal.

Jens-Christian Svenning received the award on Thursday, November 24, 2022 during the EFF congress in Metz, France with approximately 900 onsite participants.

“I am particularly happy to receive this big recognition from the European Ecological Federation, as it covers a total of 18 national ecological societies from 20 countries and thereby represents my colleagues in the science of ecology broadly across Europe. It is a big honor and much appreciated,” Professor Jens-Christian Svenning says.
