An industrial project is a course in the Master’s degree programme in biology at the Department of Biology where the Master’s degree student takes part in an academic-oriented course in a company.
The student is responsible for hands-on assignments and will test his/her biological knowledge, theories and methods. The industrial project strengthens the students ' competences such as creativity, independence and the ability to collaborate. At the same time, students will be inspired to choose their path in their working life following their studies. The project programme tasks should be relevant for the student’s study programme, and the student should work within the same framework as the company’s other employees.
The industry collaboration project gives the business and industry community access to the latest knowledge, the opportunity to cultivate collaboration with Aarhus University and the possibility to recruit potential new talents.
At the Department of Biology, we have an inspiration catalogue for the Master’s degree students, who are interested in a business project. Here your company or organisation will create a profile that is accessible via the study portal.
The profile indicates a primary contact person in the company or organisation whom the biology student may contact. It is the biology student who must contact the company or organisation - this is an important part of the learning process.
It is always an individual assessment by the company or organisation whether a student matches the company or organisation and if there is sufficient time and a suitable project.
In general, all interested companies, organisations etc. can participate.
A typical host often employs biologists or other natural science employees. In addition, the host may use the industry collaboration project as an opportunity to recruit future biologists and develop a collaboration with both the student and his/her supervisor at the Department of Biology.
The project covers a semester, either the period 1 September to 15 December or 1 January to 15 June. The Master's degree student has a supervisor in the company or organisation and is also assigned a supervisor from the Department of Biology whose research is related to the topic of the project.
The supervisor in the company or organisation plays an important role and guides the project towards obtaining a satisfactory result for both the workplace and the student.
The student completes the project with a working report, a portfolio of completed tasks and an oral examination. At the exam, the supervisors from the workplace and the department are examiners together with an internal co-examiner.
The department's supervisor sets the exam date together with the supervisor from the company/organisation and the co-examiner.
The exam will be held in January or June.
The Department of Biology is inviting all interested companies and organisations to create a company profile in our inspiration catalogue for the Master’s degree students.
The company profile will be presented with logos, photos, profile descriptions, links to the website and contact person.
