Biodiversity dynamics in novel ecosystems are poorly understood; RT1 will address this key knowledge gap taking a coupled paleobiological-archeological and contemporary ecological approach to test if species diversity dynamics in novel ecosystems are predictable from existing theory by assessing diversity dynamics in prehistoric novel ecosystems, novel ecosystem analogs, and present-day novel ecosystems.
