At the Department of Biology, we work with basic research, which contributes to the understanding of the evolution and function of living organisms (that is genetics, evolution and physiology) as well as the understanding of mutual relations (ecology). Our research has an application- and problem-solving-oriented aim in relation to national and global environmental problems and societal challenges such as the biodiversity crisis, climate changes, sustainable food production and food security. Our research thus addresses topics of great political and public attention.
We are convinced that problems and challenges of this caliber can only be solved through collaboration across disciplines. The department's research is therefore based on collaboration with national and international research institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations and companies.
