Research Theme 2 (RT2): Complexity restoration

The global, inevitable spread of novel ecosystems requires strategies to minimize negative and maximize positive effects for Earth’s biodiversity. Restoring ecological complexity (heterogenity and connectivity of ecological elements) offers a potential solution, but its generality and scalability remain unclear. Therefore, we will test if and how restoration of ecological complexity enhances species diversity in novel ecosystems, in order to assess if their biodiversity value can be actively improved.
