Laboratory for Personal Epigenetics
As an associate professor, I conduct research in genetics and epigenetics. In my work, I am particularly interested in gene regulatory mechanisms and how they have importance for human health. I have a master degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology and a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology. I have long-term experience with biomedical research, research supervision, and research-based teaching of medical and molecular medical students.
My laboratory (Laboratory for Personal Epigenetics) studies genetic and epigenetic mechanisms controlling gene expression, and how the dysfunction of these mechanisms can influence human health. The goal is to improve the genetic and epigenetic basic scientific understanding, as well as to develop novel approaches for diagnostics and therapies, for environmental-induced diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, and cancer.
I primarily teach in the format of lectures and class teaching at the courses 'Genetics and Personalized Medicine' for medical students at the bachelor level and 'Medical Genetics' for molecular medicine students at the bachelor level. This also includes preparation of teaching materials, course designs, and examinations. I also participates in teaching/supervision of medical students performing their bachelor thesis. On top of this, I perform ‘guest’ teaching at various courses and perform external censuring on courses at the bachelor and master levels.
Finally, I am also conducting research supervision at the bachelor, master and PhD levels, as well as external evaluation of dissertations at these educational levels.
For an example of a fruitful collaboration can be highlighted the ongoing efforts with the research group of professor Boe S. Sørensen, Skejby University Hospital, aiming to identify new treatment targets and diagnostic targets for Non-Small-Cell-Lung-Cancer.
Based on my research in in genetics and epigenetics, I advise a variety of councils on purposes related to biomedical research. This includes reviewing tasks for different programs supported by the European Council (EU).
My primary area of responsibility is molecular medical research, supervision of young researchers, and teaching in genetics and epigenetics.
